Admin A lucky couple who won £5,000 towards their dream wedding from an online bingo site have had their plans turned on their heads after their disapproving vicar said he would not encourage gambling in church.
Suzanne Latta and her fiancé Matt Brown won £5,000 in a competition run by Online Bingo Lounge, a bingo portal website, in return for them having the first ever bingo wedding – which includes having the logo on the bride’s wedding dress and grooms suit.
Unfortunately, it looks like Online Bingo Lounge didn’t entirely think things through as now it looks like the couple won’t get their bingo prize because their vicar has put his foot down, saying that he won’t allow gambling to be promoted in his church.
Suzanne and Matt, from Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, were chosen from more than one hundred couples who entered the competition and were planning to marry in Scotland. However, Reverend Tony Watts, of Glenmuick Church in Ballater, has insisted that he will not allow the logo in church.
Suzanne said: “We were both absolutely delighted to have been chosen as the winners of the Bingo Bride competition.
“But our minister is not allowing any photos in the church during the ceremony, it is a sacred place and he wants no distractions, on speaking to him he didn’t approve of gambling being advertised in his church.”
Rob Hutchison, of Online Bingo Club, said that they were “very disappointed” at the vicars decision and said that it was just “a bit of harmless fun and five grand would have helped Matt and Suzanne pay for their special day.”
The terms of the prize include having the websites logo on the bridal party’s outfits, including their shoes, as well as their invitations, menus and place settings.
